The 1861 Farmhouse offers a dining experience unlike any other. The 150-year-old, elegant victorian farmhouse sits at the top of a gentle hill in timeless Valle Crucis. Step back in time in this beautifully restored Civil War-era home, featuring two Victorian dining rooms and an "old world" wine room constructed from the two original brick rooms of the house. The grand opening of the winery will be in April 2012 and the restored Farmhouse barn is the focal point of the winery. Wine is aged in oak barrels that line the walls and the custom tasting bar doubles as a dining table for private dinner parties. Rather than maintaining its own vineyard, the winemaker at the 1861 visits many vineyards seeking those with the best harvest from which to purchase juice. Juice is shipped to the 1861 Farmhouse and the wine making process begins. Everything is done on site, from blending to aging and from bottling to labeling. Wine tasting is offered every day May through mid-January; then on weekends through April.
